DETAILED INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT CAN HELP YOU TO FIND:

GREATER BODY – MIND AWARENESS:

Connect with your body-mind through breath, movement and focused attention. Deepen self-awareness and relationship to yourself.

LEARNING & UNDERSTANDING:

About your posture, movement patterns, mental-emotional patterns and how they affect your nervous system and overall well being.

MOVEMENT INTELLIGENCE:

Learn movement intelligence through attention to alignment, skillful use of effort/ease and atunement to sensory feedback.

What to Expect in a Session

(Each session will vary and may include any of the following)

PHYSICAL PRACTICES

STRENGTHENING:

Uneven muscle strength (and length) between opposing muscle groups can create uneven wear and tear on joints, affect posture and bio-mechanics in the body. In private sessions, targeted strengthening (and lengthening) practices develop stability, muscle balance and mobility.

ASSISTED STRETCHING:

Well suited to those who are very tight and stiff, or may be too weak to hold a pose. Enables better alignment and targeted lengthening to specific areas that may not otherwise be accessible.

THERAPEUTIC MOVEMENT:

Ranging in intensity and specific to the individual, and always within the parameters of movement ease, these exercises or movements specifically address problematic areas and their contributing participants. Gentle movements serve to lubricate joints, ease tension and gradually open restrictions.

RESTORATIVE PRACTICES:

In this day and age, we seem to be busier than ever. The resulting stress wreaks havoc on the body’s nervous and musculo-skeletal systems, organs and bodily processes – contributing to premature aging and compromised immunity (among other things). Restorative practices serve to offset and balance daily stressors and to replenish all aspects of one’s Being. They provide the opportunity for deep rest and regeneration.

INNER PRACTICES

Yoga therapy in its truest form considers all aspects of an individual’s experience, including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It differs from manual and physical therapies because it is holistic in approach and aims to bring all parts of an individual into right relationship and to help find a greater sense of wholeness.

In private sessions, we can look at these aspects of your life (if you wish) as expressed through:

  • lifestyle – choices and activities
  • belief systems
  • habitual patterns
  • support systems
  • spiritual / reflective practices

Together we can develop a plan of action based on how you would like to experience your life, and what is realistic given the demands and circumstances you currently have. We may include practices such as intention setting, values assessment, prioritization, meditation, visualization, self support and other specific assignments/practices for re-patterning and creating change.
